The Bainbridge Island School District recently announced the selections of two new head coaches.
Jennifer Roman will be the new head volleyball coach, and Kristine Cox is the new head coach for the boys swim & dive team.
Roman has extensive volleyball experience, not only as a high school and collegiate athlete, but with many years as a volleyball coach working with athletes ranging from eight-year-olds to players entering college, according to district officials.
She has served as a BHS volunteer coach as well as the C-team coach. When the volleyball program was left with an opening this off-season, Roman applied for the Head Coach position.
“I love the game of volleyball and have been part of the community for over 30 years; I am dedicated to making sure all students feel confident to push themselves to become anything they want to be, whether that be as a top level athlete or an astronaut,” she said.
Roman will be working with Lara Sweeney, the current JV coach, leaving BHS with an opening for a C-team coach.
Cox comes with many experiences as a competitive swimmer throughout her high school and college years, as well as being a swim coach and USA-certified official.
She has extensive knowledge of stroke technique and proper training programs for athletes of all levels and has also volunteered with the BHS girls swim & dive program since 2018.
She still swims competitively as a master’s swimmer.
“As a competitive swimmer, I have patience and compassion towards the athletes as I know swimming is a tough sport; however, I know when to push and provide the swimmers with the internal drive and inspiration they need to perform their best,” she said.
Cox will be working with assistant coaches Kristin Gellert and Joy Miller.
