Naval Base Kitsap Marine charged with second-degree rape

Elijah M. Galindo, a member of the U.S. Marine Corps stationed at Naval Base Kitsap, has been charged with second-degree rape after being identified by a 17-year-old as the man who raped her at a party in Silverdale.

Galindo and the victim had been at the party Sept. 25 at night and according to statements made to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office did not know each other prior to the party.

Galindo had invited the victim, who admitted to deputies that she had been intoxicated at the time, to sit on the couch with him and then go out to the patio of the apartment where the party was taking place.

The victim told deputies that once she met Galindo outside he pushed her up against the wall and started to kiss and touch her despite her telling him not to multiple times. The victim stated she was too intoxicated and weak to fight Galindo off and that there were several times when he dropped her or pushed her causing her nose to bleed among other injuries.

When he was done, the victim contacted a friend explaining what had happened, asked for a ride and reported the incident to KCSO the next day.

After undergoing a Sexual Assault Nurse Exam the victim was able to speak to KCSO deputies.

The victim identified Galindo via Facebook and detectives coordinated with Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents to have Galindo brought in for an interview. Galindo declined to have the interview recorded and to answer questions without a lawyer present.

Galindo was placed under arrest for suspicion of rape in the second degree and $150,000 bail.
