New pastor
Pastor Paula Burchill has taken over at Vinland Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.
Burchill has served as a pastor in Kitsap County since 1998—at Bethany Lutheran on Bainbridge Island and Silverdale Lutheran before coming to Poulsbo. She was educated at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., and Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn.
She said she is excited to serve as a pastor in the town she calls home. Her husband, Corey, teaches math at North Kitsap High School, and they have three kids, one at Whitworth in Spokane, and the other two at North Kitsap High School.
Burchill will be installed as pastor of Vinland Lutheran Church on Nov. 22 at 9:30 a.m. There is limited seating at the church due to COVID-19 restrictions, but the service will also be broadcast live on the church website.
Vinland Lutheran is located on Finn Hill.

The first Friday 80 pounds of food were donated.
Participants can drop off food, gift cards or money at the school pickup-dropoff location. PTO volunteers then take the donations to Helpline House.
Needed items include: Soups; canned fruit, vegetables and meat; kid-friendly snacks; and holidays items for baking, spices, broth, cooking oils and boxed mixes.
Ferry rescue
For the third time in two months, crew members on the state Ferry Puyallup were part of a successful water rescue recently.
The crew saved two jet skiers and their dog after one of the two riders fell due to a large wake. A rescue boat was launched after Chief Mate John McMillen noticed one of them waving a handkerchief.
Once aboard the ferry, the crew and three passengers who were nurses treated the person who was in the water for 20 minutes for hypothermia and monitored their vitals until emergency medical services took over upon arrival in Kingston.
Puyallup crew members also were involved two rescues on Labor Day.
