Bainbridge businesses have just received an economic boost.

The Bainbridge Island Downtown Association — and subsequently the many mom-and-pop businesses it supports — was recognized in the form of a $10,000 check from Kitsap Bank last week for its continued efforts to preserve Bainbridge’s historic commercial district.

“Kitsap Bank is very pleased to partner with Bainbridge Island Downtown Association,” said Tony George, president and chief operating officer for the bank.

“These dedicated business and community leaders have set an excellent example of how to create and manage a sustainable and vibrant small downtown,” George said.

As a regional bank, Kitsap Bank promotes sustainable banking practices by investing in the communities it serves.

In the past five years, it has invested more than $1.25 million and countless volunteer hours in nonprofits and civic organizations through its Community Connections Program.

The Bainbridge Island Downtown Association is one of four recipients so far this year. Kitsap Bank has presented donations of $10,000 each to the

Gig Harbor Downtown waterfront Alliance, Port Angeles Downtown Association and Port Townsend Main Street Program.

The bank has committed to providing support to nearly 100 nonprofit organizations in 2014 with donations totaling more than $300,000.

Kitsap Bank’s Bainbridge donation falls under the Main Street Tax Incentive Program which provides B&O tax credits for businesses who invest in downtown revitalization efforts, including economic development activities designed to support and promote the local business community.
