Play center opens Monday
Peacock Playtime, a play center designed for children 6 months to 6 years of age (accompanied by a parent or care provider), will open Monday at 11201 Sunrise Dr., next to the Jiffy Mart.
The new business will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p. m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday; there will be no charge during the first week.
Starting on Oct. 20, the cost will be $10 per visit with no limit on the number of times a child and the care provider can come and go. Parking will be available in the adjacent lot.
The play center, owned and operated by Kelly Sparks and Sheila Kent, will offer slides, play structures and other aids that help children develop their motor skills. Sparks said the activities will be wiggle-based for the youngsters.

Cookie maker goes retail
My Kids’ Cookies Shop, which opened in July 2007 as an online business, is now offering its cookies from a retail store and commercial kitchen in the Sportsman Business Park, 9723 Coppertop Loop, Suite 202.
Owner Barbara Reininger’s kitchen includes a commercial convection oven, which, besides being used for her own product, is available for baking parties such as birthdays, and to rent out.
Reininger said much of her business is still online, but islanders are beginning to learn about the store through word of mouth. She also bakes cookies for retail sales at the Lynwood and Bainbridge Cinema theaters.
“Given where we’re located,” she said, “we’re a destination in that you have to be looking for the store. But people are coming and once they find me they come back. People are starting to find us, so we’re growing.”

DLI acquired by Azima
Bainbridge-based DLI Engineering, a pioneer in vibration-based condition analysis, has been acquired by Azima Holdings Inc., a firm in Woburn, Mass., that specializes in the delivery of condition monitoring services.
The combined entity, Azima DLI, will be a market leader based on providing services to two of the industry’s largest customers, the U.S. Navy and Air Liquide, the company said in a statement.
DLI Engineering has 42 years of expertise developing automated machine diagnostics. It has global expertise in markets such as aerospace, automotive, food, military, maritime, pharmaceutical and wind power. It’s headquarters will remain on Bainbridge.
Super blogger to lecture
Jason Alba, creator of the JibberJobber.com, will give a lecture and workshop Sunday at Bainbridge Island Public Library, from 5-7 p.m.
Alba, author of books about LinkedIn and Facebook, will offer tips about how to use the Internet to market a personal brand, network with others and find a job.
The event is sponsored by the Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce and is free, though donations will be accepted to help cover costs.
