Seattle’s Intiman Theare brings a community reading of “The Scarlet Letter” to the Bainbrige Public Library at 7 p.m. Nov. 19.

Most people are familiar with the classic Nathaniel Hawthorne novel, “The Scarlet Letter,” a sad tale of love, betrayal, judgment, and hypocrisy set within the context of seventeenth-century Puritan New England.

An informal dramatic reading of a new adaptation by Naomi Iizuka, will be followed by a facilitated conversation linking the themes, plot, and history of the play to our lives and circumstances today.

About 10 community members will be “cast” to read aloud brief scenes from both Iizuka’s play and Hawthorne’s novel.

Those who don’t wish to read can attend as audience members and participate in the conversation that follows.
