BDC showcases
a year of study
Each spring, Bainbridge Dance Center stages a series of performances highlighting the variety and range of its dedicated young students, along with the choreography talents of its 10 faculty members.
This year’s performances, featuring dancers ages 4-18, will include Ballet, Modern, Jazz and Tap, with advanced Ballet Repertory performing a reinterpretation of Stravinsky’s first ballet, “The Firebird.” Seniors Lilly Orrey, Maddy Reeves, Hannah Crichton and Anna Houk will also be featured in their areas of technical study.
Performances are June 24-28 at Bainbridge Performing Arts, with shows at 7 p.m. nightly and a 2 p.m. show on Saturday. See www.bainbridgedancecenter.com or www.bainbridgeperformingarts.org.
Bella a capella is sweet and stellar
Bella, the a cappella trio comprised of Susan Welch, Emily Groff and Georgia Browne, has fittingly been weaving its sweet harmonies for three years and change.
“Eclectic repertoire, stunning harmonies and intricate arrangements, plus the varying timbre of their very different voices,” the group bio says, “make for a rich and diverse performance.” Translation: beautiful music.
See Bella at 7 p.m. June 21 at Island Music Guild, 10598 Valley Rd. For information, email bellacapella@gmail.com.
The return of Cesar Medel
Nationally recognized classical/Christian guitarist Cesar Medel will play music from his latest CD, “Eternal Light,” at 5 p.m. June 21 at Bethany Lutheran Church.
Medel’s performance is the first for Bethany’s new 5 p.m. Saturday services this summer, which will feature musical offerings by soloist Barbara Hume; a contingent of the St. Cecilia Men’s Compline; the Jeff Cauter group; and the piano duo of Chris Smellow and Betsy Dunlap. For information, call the church at 842-4241.
Do the Dino Dig this summer
Kids Discovery Museum will lead off its summer season with what can really only be called an extravaganza.
Last year’s popular Dino Dig exhibit resurfaces on June 20 along with the opening of the water play area. Other weekend activities include a “feet-on” tap-dancing presentation; a demo by kids’ favorite Lynn Brunelle; and an introduction to marine flora and fauna. See www.kidimu.org for museum hours and information.
