To the editor:
I enjoyed reading your news article in your last issue about enhancing Waypoint Park with additional art. The article clearly presents themes that are being considered for improving the site.
I personally believe the park is well designed and constructed as is — with one exception. The circular flat area on the north side that is surrounded with glass mosaics of flowers, fish, birds, animals, etc. seems vacant. What is needed is a bronze abstract sculpture of about ten feet in height and eight feet in diameter. This sculpture would complement the art in BIMA right across the street. Since the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum has already placed plaques with information about the earlier exploration, peoples, and businesses on the island, it would be redundant to add more of this in the form of art. Too much art could cause a lack of focus for visitors.
