I read with great interest James Olsen’s letter (July 30) expressing his concern that the race he is participating in is not generating enough interest from the local media.
He is absolutely correct in that the people of Bainbridge Island and beyond, who would be impacted by this election, need to know the facts about each candidate.
Therefore, I feel compelled to help the voters of Bainbridge Island, and beyond, learn more about Mr. Olsen.
He is the man behind the ridiculous homemade signs you have seen for years at almost every public intersection on Bainbridge Island, signs that complain about COBI this, and Barry Peters that. Signs that talk about the mysterious car tax and the bloat bond, whatever that is.
He objected to our local schools teaching about the internment of the Japanese during WWII, and tried to disrupt classes to get his bizarre points across. School officials requested a no-trespassing order as a result.
Mr. Olsen was the campaign manager for another local candidate a few years ago who exaggerated his previous experience level and put up signs in illegal places.
In retaliation, Mr. Olsen filed a complaint with the city about the annual Firefighter’s Pancake Breakfast sign which he claimed was also illegal.
Yes, the Pancake Breakfast sign of the firefighter in his rain slicker that used to appear every year to herald this annual community charity event. The city made the firefighters take their sign down, albeit reluctantly.
Mr. Olsen is the man who has a private vendetta against BITV (for some reason none of us understand) which he has aired publicly often behind false names and aliases.
He does not deserve the public’s trust in elected office. It is important that everyone knows who he really is so they can make the right choice when they vote for this important official. And it is clearly not Mr. James Olsen.
