Cartoon’s criticism of police is not amusing | Letters | Dec. 9

I was disappointed to see the Nov. 25 editorial cartoon by Bruce Pritchard, lampooning the police response to the “occupy” protests.

I was disappointed to see the Nov. 25 editorial cartoon by Bruce Pritchard, lampooning the police response to the “occupy” protests.

Perhaps you think it amusing to criticize the police for wearing protective equipment when dealing with potentially dangerous protestors. It is evident that you consider all of the protestors to be peace-loving youths who would never hurt a fly, let alone engage in acts of violence and vandalism.

It must therefore come as a shock to you that police officers throughout this country (including six WSP troAopers on Nov. 29 in Olympia) have been injured during these protests. The actions of some of these protestors are criminal in nature, are certainly not amusing, and in that light your cartoon is clearly immature and vindictive.

A more thoughtful response would actually have you praise the numerous police departments throughout this nation for their generally calm and professional actions during these events.

Regardless of one’s political affiliations, we should all be grateful to live in a nation under the rule of law, rather than subject to the whims of an unruly mob.
