To the editor:
Charlotte Garrido has been making improvements in Kitsap County and raising citizen voices for many years. She became involved in city planning when she first moved here more than 30 years ago. After attending several public meetings where very few people showed up, she realized that there was a great need for public involvement in local politics. To that end, Charlotte has worked as commissioner to bring communities together, to understand what people love about Kitsap and what needs improvement.
One of Charlotte’s top priorities, for instance, is to address the homelessness crisis we are experiencing. By bringing experts and those directly affected together to problem solve, she has opened the door to greater understanding and better solutions. I recommend watching the Commissioner’s Corner video posted on the Kitsap County website for more information.
On a personal level, I have been impressed by Charlotte’s intelligence and kindness. When I came here a little over a year ago, I knew no one and nothing, only that this would be home while my significant was stationed at the Bangor Naval Base. But then, Charlotte came up to me at a local event and introduced herself. Not only did she welcome me to the area, she helped me search for a job. In this time, I have realized that Charlotte engages everyone she meets with this level of concern and interest.
When Charlotte first ran for office, it was to give voice to private citizens, to raise awareness about policies and programs, and to increase the feeling of community that benefits — and welcomes — us all. This is still at the heart of her campaign today.
There is no one better fit for this job, nor more dedicated, intelligent, or experienced. Vote for Commissioner Charlotte Garrido and she will continue to make you proud.
