To the editor:
I read, with great interest, the story about the plans for Hazel Creek Montessori to enhance their equestrian program. My daughter grew up riding at Countryman Stables on Bainbridge and her experiences taught her valuable life long lessons. It is exciting for the Hazel Creek children to benefit from this program.
I want to clarify the impression left from the article that Bainbridge no longer has a strong equestrian presence. The equestrian community on Bainbridge has been and continues to be alive and well. Countryman Stables is in its 34th year offering all levels of riding lessons and the opportunity for kids to be fully involved in all aspects of horse care. Molly Bogardus continues to provide lessons for young riders. There are opportunities for all types and levels of riding on Bainbridge, in Poulsbo and Kingston.
The website for the Bainbrdige Island Saddle Club — www.bainbridgesaddleclub.org — has resources and schedule of events for many equestrian activities in the area.
As the article title implies, equestrian experiences are a “time–honored tradition” on Bainbridge and the growth of riding opportunities is a welcome event. The tradition continues and many kids and adults benefit from this wonderful sport.
