Regarding Daniel Smith’s comments (“Some trying to scuttle Winslow Way grants,” Feb. 13):
Yes, you can “fill a lot of potholes for $3.5 million, but in our dire straits,” you can also drive more slowly and save gas dollars. For heaven’s sake! The life-supporting ecology of Puget Sound and business infrastructure of Winslow are at stake!
Potholes? Damaged roadways to expensive homes? That’s totally stupid! The same sort of short-term, short-circuited thinking that has gotten us into our “dire straits” in the first place. For once, let’s do something that has some real, long-term benefit for the whole community and the environment.
Winslow Way means jobs and services and is a conduit to the rest of the world for a whole lot of us. As for cleaning up Puget Sound: Do you eat seafood? Do you love your children and grandchildren? Do you value your own health? Ultimately, “we all live downstream.”
Please! Let’s just get the job done … as soon as possible.
