To the editor:

On March 9, 2015 I suffered a sudden and complete cardiac arrest from ventricular fibrillation. This potentially silent killer had provided no warnings.

Through the good graces of God and the onsite presence of Fire Chief Hank Teran and fellow Rotarian Sean Marcella, with assist from Erik Smith, expert-level CPR was performed until the Bainbridge Island Fire Department EMT/Paramedic teams arrived with AED and respiratory equipment. Engine, Aid and Medic units 21, along with Aid 22 responded, arriving just four minutes from the time of the 911 call.

Professional intervention at the scene, transport to the Airlift Northwest helipad, the medivac flight to Harborview Medical Center, combined with excellent communication with the trauma center are credited by lead cardiologists at Harborview with making the critical difference, and my very survival.

The Bainbridge community is so extremely fortunate to have the critically responsive services of these outstanding emergency professionals! No words can express our gratitude.
