To the editor:

Although notices have appeared in local newspapers this past week, the Bainbridge Island School District Board of Directors would like to add a personal note of encouragement for islanders to apply for the recently vacated board position.

We know there are many community members with diverse expertise who would be a tremendous asset to the district, and we are hoping to have a broad pool of applicants who reflect the talent on this island.

Given the tremendous challenges facing public education, we welcome a volunteer whose education, background and experience would broaden the perspectives of other board members in strategic policy deliberations and finance decisions.

We believe the success of the board is a function of collaborative, respectful working relationships within the group and with the superintendent. The board is committed to finding an individual who will not only add content expertise, but who will also enhance the existing board working environment in efforts to make Bainbridge Island School District the most outstanding education district in Washington State.

PATTY FIELDING, PRESIDENT

Bainbridge Island School District Board of Directors
