Hendrickson proven to be capable, resourceful | Letters | August 12

For the at-large City Council position I would like to state my support for Kimberly Hendrickson. Hendrickson has an impressive background in political science and urban affairs and has been published in academic journals. In addition, as board member of Housing Resources Board, she added a new program that resurrected an old institution, HomeShare. HRB’s HomeShare places those looking for affordable housing in contact with homeowners who need a boarder to help with their mortgage payments or need help around the house.

Hendrickson’s HomeShare concept solves three socio-economic problems at once.  It ameliorates the lack of affordable housing for the island’s support staff.  It ameliorates the mortgage crisis, which came about by so many over-extending themselves financially and faced the consequences when the economy turned sour.  Finally, and perhaps most importantly, it ameliorated the social ill of isolation and distance between classes on Bainbridge.

A new and simple idea based on old concepts solving multiple problems. This is the type of thinking our city needs and Hendrickson will provide that for us.
