To the editor:

Our vote on I-1631 influences other countries.

In Paris in 2015, China and the U.S. pledged to reduce climate emissions by 2030, to limit average global temperature to less than 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius); 196 of 198 countries signed on, including India and the EU.

In 2017, U.S. President Trump announced his intention to remove the U.S. from that pledge. But what about the states? Will we honor the pledge? The world wants to know.

195 countries are watching Washington state right now. Will we prioritize climate change? Will we honor the Paris pledge?

Your yes vote on I-1631 sends a message to other countries, and influences their commitment to their Paris pledges. History has its eyes on you, Washington voters. Yes on I-1631.
