On my short route from home to downtown Winslow, I pass no less than three stalled construction projects, including the beautiful Ferncliff property that I am ever optimistic will someday provide affordable housing to many of our neighbors.
These are daily reminders to me of the tough economic times we have all endured over the recent past.
I then turn onto Winslow Way only to be greeted by a wonderful vision of growth, possibility, and renewal. Just as my beloved Christmas lights were removed from Winslow Way, another beacon that whispers in my ear, “This is why Bainbridge Island is such a wonderful, magical place to live,” has appeared.
It’s the Island Gateway project, an active site during the day of people working. I’ll repeat that part, people working – building, literally, community.
By night it’s cheerfully lit up, highlighting the future space for our young citizens (KiDiMu) to gather and learn.
What a boost of hope and pride for our community this provides me. Thank you!
While I will miss the buildings that have been a part of our community for so long, I know the developers have worked diligently to assist the small business tenants to relocate into space that will allow them to remain viable parts of our business community for many years to come.
I am excited to watch this parcel grow with what I imagine to be wonderful new tenants.
Again, thank you for this wonderful sign of hope and renewal for our community.
