To the editor:
Island residents may have noticed the largest property tax increases in memory over the last couple of years, largely to provide additional revenue to our schools.
It’s extremely cynical of the Bainbridge Island School District to ask us to provide additional funds for an over-budget vanity project in this environment. As they note at bisd303.org/levy, we already provided funding for this project in 2016 but construction costs have increased.
Since the project is not essential, why don’t we wait until the market cools and they can get better bids?
As a Bainbridge High alumnus and a current Wilkes parent, I can attest that our schools are more than adequately funded to maintain operations. They don’t need this one. It’s OK to vote NO.
