To the editor:
I live near the ferry terminal and the “popping” noises associated with the Fourth of July have already started, daytime and nighttime.
I have a dog with extremely sensitive hearing and she becomes stressed, nervous, anxious and often inconsolable with the “pops.” I am inviting residents of Bainbridge Island to consider voluntarily refraining from setting off private noisemakers at any time.
Perhaps for 2016, our city council could consider making our island a noise-free zone. Last year I saw yard signs asking people to be considerate of their use of private firecrackers out of respect for veterans who lived in their neighborhoods.
Thank you for your consideration.
