“Affordable housing” on Bainbridge Island?

LOL. A sampling of homes for sale in a recent edition of the Review showed 17 homes for sale at four real estate offices on the Island at $1.5 million and up. Windermere alone has three homes at over $3 million, with the highest price of $3.78 million!

The average price of the 17 sample homes is $2 million. With 20 percent down, that’s a mortgage of $1.6 million, with monthly P&I payment on a 30 year loan at 3.6 percent of $7,300, or $87,000 a year.

The median gross income per household in Kitsap County is $61,000.

Who are these people who are driving up the cost of housing on Bainbridge? They are not my neighbors. They are not part of the island community that has lived here for years.

The rest of us who live on the island are not pleased with the “gentrification” of our island. Who needs 5,000 or more square feet of living space, while the other 99 percent live in an average home of 1,500 square feet?

It is time for change. Vote for Bernie!
