Support Alpaugh
To the editor:
I am writing to extend my support for attorney Thom Alpaugh for the judge position for Bainbridge Island Municipal Court. Until August of 2023, I was a deputy prosecuting attorney with the Kitsap County Prosecutor’s Office. I also was the city prosecutor for BI for about 18 months until February of 2021. Besides being an attorney, I am also a BI resident. During my tenure as city prosecutor, I worked directly with Alpaugh and have first-hand knowledge about what’s required for the position.
Unlike the other candidates, Alpaugh has extensive legal experience and also firsthand experience. He is well respected within the Kitsap legal community, as evident by the Bar Association poll. More than 60% believe he is highly qualified for the position and over 50% of those same voters chose him as their first choice.
I worked with Alpaugh on a daily basis. I always found him to be caring for his clients, hard-working, and respectful for all parties. He was well-liked by court staff. Even though we were on opposite sides, he was always willing to hear what the city’s concerns were and work collaboratively to come up with the best outcome for his clients. It is those skills that I believe would be essential for a judge as well.
