Liveaboard death knell could have been avoided | Letters | Oct. 21

With the council’s decision to abandon negotiations with the DNR, the anchored-out residential community was given its execution order. This had been long coming as its opponents worked tirelessly for years, both inside and outside of the government.

Never mind that liveaboards are the only truly sustainable community, living off the grid, use less resources than others and insist on being self-sufficient. For most of us, sustainability comes by buying a Prius and joining any group with “sustainability” in its name.

No need to spell out what this says about our community. Frankly, this isn’t happening just on Bainbridge Island. Cultural cleansing is an American tradition and one this country was built on. So is manipulation of the media.

It should come as no surprise that a council member instructed BITV on the day the decision was made to not film the DNR leasediscussion. I don’t know about you, but I have failed to come up with an acceptable explanation for that order.

So, know that you have witnessed the end of the historic anchored-out residential use of Eagle Harbor and that greed and hypocrisy still run the world. Even on beautiful Bainbridge Island.
