Now that islanders have given the council both authority and responsibility for running the government of Bainbridge Island, it is particularly important to elect good council members. Virginia Paul is my choice for council.
She has pertinent experience to bring to bear. As a teacher, principal, and administrator she has had much authority and responsibility in the public sector.
Virginia has hired, supported, evaluated, promoted, delegated and worked with all kinds of people. She has balanced multiple demands on ever-tight budgets. She has worked to resolve issues and reach consensus among competing interests.
Finally, Virginia is the kind of new blood we need on the council. She values our island way of life. She is an educator (the only one on the council). She is motivated by community need, not personal ambition. She is running because she feels legitimate complaining requires being willing to step up and do something.
Straight-talking, intelligent, energetic, positive, determined, she is clear on the duty of government to act as agents of the people.
If she is elected, be prepared to tell her what you think, because she will ask, and will listen, and will act.
