To the editor:

There is a new handbook for teens and tweens listing volunteer opportunities that exist at island/area nonprofits. This resource guide for youth and parents describes nonprofit organizations on the island, what they do and how to contact them.

This project, championed by Rebecca Judd, our Bainbridge KRL Librarian, and Shannon Buxton, Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District, was created as a result of the Healthy Youth Summit last March.

Both Rebecca and Shannon heard that our kids would like some guidance to find outlets for their interests and passions. And a central resource would be ideal — a sort of “one-stop shopping.” Rebecca surveyed the island nonprofits and with their input, the Resource Guide was developed.

If you would like to obtain a free copy of “A Resource Guide for Bainbridge Island Teens and Tweens,” it is available in hard copy at the Bainbridge Public Library and Bainbridge Youth Services. Hard copies were made possible by the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island.

It is also available electronically at www.bainbridgeyouthservices.org (under the Youth Job drop down menu).
