To the editor:
I am disheartened, saddened and yes, angry about the “not-in-my-neighborhood” attitude I keep REPEATEDLY hearing and reading about.
My goodness, folks! You’re acting as though people are proposing to open a crack house or brothel next to your precious space. They are not. A training place for service dogs? A zipline?
These are lovely ideas. They were incredibly well thought out plans that respected both the environment and the existing population — the neighbors. And I am also a homeowner in the Pleasant Beach area (where the “seasonal” zipline would be).
Please, we need to welcome the wonderful, and thoughtful additions to our neighborhoods, to our island.
We should also remember, but for a few people, families and structures on this island, WE ARE ALL “intruders” on someone else’s land.
The houses and condos that we live in, the restaurants that we dine in and the stores that we shop at all had to ask for someone’s approval. Where would we all be if those folks from generations ago said, “No! Not in my neighborhood”?
