Oddo wants to serve our island community | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

I am writing to support Anthony Oddo for the at-large position on the Bainbridge Island City Council. I have known Anthony and his husband David since they moved to the Grow Community several years ago; when they found a house to buy, I was sad to see them go and also happy for them.

In his time here, Anthony has contributed to the community by serving on the city’s Marine Access Committee, including as its chair, and volunteering with the Bainbridge Ometepe Sister Islands Association.

I support Anthony because his master’s degree in public policy will benefit the city council and because he is committed both to affordable housing and to the environment. He knows the challenges we face in making housing available to people with a variety of income levels through his work as the policy and programs coordinator at Housing Resources Bainbridge. He is well versed in environmental issues through his work before moving to the island, including with the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the Department of Justice. In addition, he has experience in budgeting for public agencies, and has spent his career serving public and nonprofit entities.

Anthony is seeking the at-large position not because of any specific agenda, and rather because of a wish to be of service to the community that has welcomed him and his husband. His intelligence, thoughtfulness, and willingness to change his mind when presented with new information make him an excellent candidate for this position.
