What a sad commentary on life that there isn’t enough room in the world for kids to skate legally and…
This a letter to all absent-minded road users on Bainbridge Island.
Let me tell you my personal experience of Finch Place life. In an article by Sean Roach (“Finch Place residents fear reprisals,” Nov. 5), many upsetting things were reported about Finch Place senior apartments. However, the article reflected the views of about one in five tenants. Here’s the rest of the story, as they say.

Bike riders need to consider others
This letter is to address a serious safety issue on our fair island.
After an interesting day of marine patrol training at the Bainbridge Island Police Department, I put on my other hat as a mom. I was looking forward to an afternoon with my daughter after school, looking for additional Halloween apparel and a few hours together. I waited for her school bus at the corner of Country Club Road and Toe Jam Hill in my private car, appreciating a moment of quiet.
Election ’08
Park district
lacks strategy
Bainbridge Metro Parks and Recreation District is hoping to convince voters to “Lift the Levy Lid” in this election.
While I think a vast majority of Bainbridge residents, including me, generally like the concept of having open space and parks, we need to ensure that dollars are spent wisely and that each of these parks and open spaces get enough public use to be justified.
In any election or levy issue I applaud creative, hard-fought campaigns that bring sunlight to issues and inform the voters. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. However, I continue to decry efforts by politicians or agencies to shut down discussion. I furthermore decry campaigns that violate PDC laws or parties engaging in unfair and possibly illegal use of quasi-public agencies to tip the scale of public opinion through Byzantine alliances.
Thank you
Backpacks a success
Thank you all who contributed to our eighth annual back-to-school fund-raising effort, Project Backpack.
As donations were down this year from previous years, we especially want to thank Jim Peek, who sponsors and organizes the Classic Car Cruise-In at the Baptist Church; he brought in the most significant portion of our funding.

Measure has too many uncertainties
While there may be some good intentions behind the measure, there are many more reasons to oppose Proposition 1 than there are to favor it.
The financial crisis has brought along with it the blame game. This is understandable. However, too often I have heard the blame for the housing crisis laid at the feet of people with low and moderate incomes. There have been articles and editorials in major newspapers and magazines, and more than a few conversations overheard on Bainbridge Island, expressing the sentiment that the real gist of the problem was the efforts by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and others to get low-income households to purchase homes.
The Park Board and director need to be applauded for their diligent work. However, we have a philosophical difference. We would be willing to support the 25 percent going to M & O, but the 75 percent going to more open space and further development is what we oppose.
