Program to serve island youth with basic care | Letters | May 21

Please join the conversation regarding the health of one of our community’s greatest inspirations and assets – our young people. Attend, contribute and learn from the upcoming forum about the proposed School Based Health Clinic at Bainbridge High School on Wednesday, May 26 at 7 p.m. in the BHS Commons.

As a health care provider in our community, I speak fully in favor of the School Based Health Clinic, as does our longstanding resource, Bainbridge Youth Services.

The concept has been fully researched by the School Based Health Clinic Advisory Board and supported by many of our local health care providers, parents and students in our community.

The clinic aims to provide an additional opportunity for our youth to accurately and appropriately learn good health practices, as well as seek health care that may not otherwise be available to some.

As a community, we can support the health and well-being of our young people through this program.

Whether the services provided are sports physical exams, support with the pressure of academics and extra-curricular activities, or treating sore throats during finals week, this program serves to aid our youth in their success.

It also serves families with busy schedules by making basic health care possible where it may otherwise be difficult for some to obtain.

The health needs of our youth are great, even in this fortunate community. Please join us and contribute your thoughts, input, concerns and support in creating health for a lifetime for our island’s youth.
