Helpline House wishes to extend our great appreciation to the greater Bainbridge Island community for helping make this year’s Project Wishbone such a very meaningful contribution to our community.
Over 175 families were given supplies to help prepare a Thanksgiving dinner for their families, in addition to regular food bank services for others.
Many organizations and individuals donated supplies and time. We first wish to thank our volunteers who sorted and organized food.
And we’d like to give thanks to the many organizations and individuals in our community who donated food and/or time to provide Thanksgiving to others.
Wishbone donors included people from every walk of life. One family alone purchased more than $1,700 of food and delivered it to our doors.
Churches and faith communities, as well as several youth groups, also delivered Thanksgiving food with great joy. With funds raised from its congregation, a member of St. Barnabas purchased several deliveries of fresh produce and other items we ran short of on donation Saturday.
Several service organizations such as Rotary and Kiwanis donated, as well as many other clubs and neighborhood groups.
Boy Scout troop 1496 did our fresh food drive at Safeway and many school groups contributed as well. Most notably BHS and Ordway, which had all-school food drives, had a bus driver even organizing the children to each bring a can of food.
The staff of several island nonprofits, including the library, brought in bundles of fresh herbs as part of their donation.
Plus, many anonymous people also participated in making this Thanksgiving a very special holiday for so many families who are struggling to make ends meet here on our island.
We thank you for your continued support of Project Wishbone.
