We are writing to correct your caption to the Chinese lion photo on page A14 (Feb. 20). It was the year of the RAT that went out (with a whimper) and the year of the OX came in with the lion’s roar. The OX is especially auspicious this year as he signifies prosperity through hard work and fortitude. The OX is logical and patient and succeeds in reaching his goals with his relentlessly positive attitude. He is stoical in the face of hardship. He does not tire easily.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the entire community for its support of the Chinese New Year Festival these last four years.

There have been hundreds of contributors and volunteers who have made the festival a success. One of our biggest contributors has been Town & Country Market, which provided a Chinese-style noodle stall and allowed our other food vendors to set up on its property. And the Suquamish Tribe has supported us from day.

A special thanks go to Bainbridge High School students who trained, practiced and performed the Lion dance in authentic style.
