To the editor:

Senator Patty Murray continues to be a voice of reason, continually working across the aisle to create legislation and budgets that benefit all Americans and support of American’s positive leadership role in the world (‘Border emergency is ‘based on lies and a manufactured crisis’ by Senator Murray, Bainbridge Island Review, Feb. 15, 2018).

Whether it is helping to pass a bipartisan budget that averts another shutdown, or working with members of all parties to continue America’s leadership in supporting the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, the senator’s quiet leadership helps good things happen.

The Global Fund has saved 27 million lives since 2002, strengthened health care systems around the world, and carefully tracks spending to make sure it is effective.

America’s bold three-year pledge this October of less than the requested amount for the wall, will inspire other donors to put up two-thirds of the total and help save another 16 million lives.

This is the kind of representation that Americans deserve; thanks Senator Murray.
