I am compelled to respond to Palin, Limbaugh, Beck, and local complainer’s Dazma and Gorner’s, and their continual drivel and misinformation.
I am so tired of the shopworn phrases, tax and spend, Obamacare, and Boston Tea Party, as well as their collective and constant drum-beat, trying to incite our basic fears and prejudices, in hopes of gaining the November elections. For example, locally, they cry for more State austerity while, conveniently overlooking the facts, the Democrats they want replaced voted in a $143 billion tax reduction this session and we are only beginning to recover from a deep, nationwide recesion.
The facts are deliberately skewed in these pundit’s tirades.
1. They never write about the problems being created mostly by the republicans with their massive redistribution of our nation’s wealth by relaxing regulations and promoting massive tax breaks for the corporations and the rich.
2. They never admit they have privatized corporate profits, forcing a socialization of the risks (publicly financed bailouts).
3. They never mention the reality of preventing the total collapse of our economic system by stimulating the economy (like F.D.R. did in the 30s).
4. They never admit that correcting their greed costs taxpayers’ money.
It’s usually that way – the republicans cut taxes, trashing the nation’s infrastructure, the poor and the middle class, while the rich get richer. Then the democrats are elected to set things straight, and of course, that costs money, which makes them an easy target for political blackmail, including “voting the rascals out”.
Most of us taxpayers are proud of our 23rd District’s Sen. Rockefeller, and Reps. Rolfes and Appleton. We commend their hard work in meeting the very difficult challenges of this deep recession. It’s easy to just criticize and be the Party of No. It takes courage to do the right thing for the people.
We will remember in November!
