Concerned that some would seem what follows to be an imposition, I waited a long time before urging the acceptance that auto headlights be used even during all daylight periods as a simple and easy to accept safety measure.

The reasons are quite simple.

First, many cars are hard to see coming out of the shade of trees or because their colors are just difficult to make out at various time of the day, twilight, etc.

It’s the same kind of reasoning why pedestrians on the road should wear light-colored clothing.

Second, those lights are additional attention-getters for other drivers coming from opposite directions.

This is certainly not intended as one more governmental interference. Rather it’s a good-natured proposal from a concerned person who has had more than a few potential problems and whose vision is pretty good. Most folks here use their headlights at all times. It would be useful and easy if we all did.
