Wall of Courage honors children, their hospital | Letters | Sept. 10

We wanted to say thank you to the Bainbridge Review for acknowledging the Bargain Boutique and all they do for families and patients of Seattle Children’s Hospital.

The Wall of Courage is a great tribute to the strength of children, the knowledge and expertise of medical teams and the power of prayer.

No one expects to end up with a child that needs medical help, but when it does happen it is incredibly important to have a place like Seattle Children’s Hospital nearby.

Our daughter Zoe had a 50 percent chance of survival and has spent close to five months of her two years inpatient at Children’s where she still has appointments with various departments at least twice a month.

Every time we go there we are treated with respect and she is looked after with the utmost care and attention. Her doctors and nurses always listen to our concerns and include us as part of Zoe’s medical team and take our ideas and opinions into deep consideration.

They always say we know our child best and are willing to let us try some less conventional therapies to help her reach her goals.

Thanks to the perseverance of her team of doctors, Zoe is now eating on her own, almost walking, and breathing without the help of supplemental oxygen.

Except for her little giraffe backpack with its IV pump of lung medicine, you would never know she’s any different from other toddlers – a far cry from where she was two years ago.

It is an honor to have Zoe included in the Wall of Courage and we hope that her determination and will to survive will be encouragement for many more families that might be facing future journeys of their own.

We know that the journey doesn’t always turn out perfect and we feel blessed every day for each moment we have with Zoe.

We also view this Wall of Courage as a tribute to those children who fought hard and have passed on to become angels guarding over other children.

We so appreciate the care and love Zoe receives from Seattle Children’s Hospital and are grateful for the efforts of the Bargain Boutique to help provide funds for Seattle Children’s Hospital and its families.
