“Reconstruction,” a show of oil paintings by Bainbridge artist Susan Arens, opens from 6-8 p.m. Friday in the C. Keith Birkenfeld Lobby at BPA.
Diffuse shapes advance and recede against intensely colored backgrounds. Devoid of line, the interplay suggests dreamy landscapes.
Arens studied at the School of the Museum of Fine art in Boston, the Danforth Museum, and the DeCordova, all in Massaschusetts.

Paul Brians shows images from his upcoming book “Four Seasons on Bainbridge” at Oil & Water in September.
Brians, who bought property on Bainbridge in 1994 and moved here in 2008, developed a passion for photography while teaching at the University of Washington at Pullman. After documenting his international travels, he turned his lens to the Palouse landscape where he lived. When he moved to Bainbridge with his wife Paula Elliott, he began to explore his new home one click at a time.
The result is a compilation, organized by seasond, that captures his experience of the island so far. Images include the flora, fauna and people he’s encountered.
