Art Museum board appoints first executive director

The board of directors of the Bainbridge Art Museum announced the appointment of Greg Robinson as the first executive director of the Bainbridge Art Museum.

Robinson is a Seattle native who has worked in arts administration for 15 years, most recently as executive director of the Museum of Northwest Art in La Conner.  He has also worked as Director of Traver Gallery in Tacoma and Executive Director of Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle.

After a national search with a museum consulting firm, the museum board agreed strongly that the best candidate was someone already engaged in Pacific Northwest regional art.

“Greg brings not only experience, talent, and creative energy,” Board President David Lewis said in a press release.  “But also a sense of humor and the complete dedication invaluable during the creation and construction of a major community facility.”

Robinson’s experience includes fundraising, management and curatorial affairs. His volunteer experience includes four years on the Board of the American Craft Council and ten years as a Member of the Betty Bowen Award Committee at the Seattle Art Museum. He has also worked on numerous art juries and scholarship panels and provided board trainings for smaller not-for-profits.

Robinson holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and a master’s degree in Public Administration from New York University.

The Bainbridge Art Museum, part of the Island Gateway project on the corner of State Route 305 and Winslow Way, is scheduled to open in late Spring 2012. The adjacent auditorium and classrooms will open Spring 2011.
