Auditions open for ‘Merry Wives of Windsor’

Bainbridge Performing Arts will hold auditions for their upcoming production of “The Merry Wives of Windsor” on Monday, April 17.

Embraced by audiences the world over as one of Shakespeare’s most delightful plays, this most merry and very English comedy centers on the lovable rogue Sir John Falstaff. Hard up for money and seeking to restore his riches, he sends identical love letters to two wealthy wives. But the wooed Windsor women see through his schemes and set him up for some hilariously sweet revenge.

BPA will once again transform the Bloedel Reserve meadow, this time into the Windsor forest, as part of this summertime Shakespeare show.

Run dates are July 7-9, July 13-16, and July 20-23, with a pay-what-you-can preview planned for July 6.

Rehearsals are May 6 through July 5: from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, plus 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

The show includes roles for five or more women ages 20 and up, 11 men ages 20 and up, and three youth ages 12 and up.

Those auditioning are requested to prepare a comedic classical monologue (pre-1900s) for their audition, no more than 1 1/2 minutes long. Producers note that some characters in the play do sing, so those auditioning may be asked to sing a snippet of their favorite song a capella.

A complete listing of characters is online at www.bainbridgeperformingarts.org/collections/auditions, and all roles are open to audition.
