Young Bainbridge-based singer/songwriter Lucia Opalka will perform as part of Starbucks and Seattle Theatre Group’s ongoing series, “Up Next: Live Music from Rising Stars” from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14 at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room in Seattle.
Lucia, 14, is a pianist/singer/songwriter with a quick wit, full heart and burgeoning songbook. She began studying piano at age 4 and soon after began composing and singing.
At 13 she started performing publicly and discovered a bigger world of musical mentors and peers at Seattle Theater Group’s Songwriters’ Lab.
In 2016, Lucia performed at an STG donor event during the run of “Beautiful: The Carole King Story” at the Paramount Theatre before being invited to perform as part of the Up Next series at the Starbucks Roastery. She was quickly asked back again this year.
The concert is free and open to the public, with food and beverages available for purchase. The Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room is at 1124 Pike St., Seattle.
Up Next is a twice yearly series of live performances by rising musical stars in the Seattle area. Featured up and coming artists have participated in STG’s Songwriters Lab and More Music at The Moore programs. Performing in the Up Next series gives them a chance to showcase their original works to a new audience and the community gets to hear the latest from rising stars in their neighborhood Starbucks locations, even officials said.
