Biomimicry is the topic at next Kitsap Audubon meeting

Kitsap Audubon will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 for the program, “Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired By Nature” at the Poulsbo Library.

Nan Woodman, author and illustrator for National Geographic, will give the lecture. Biomimicry is an emerging science that involves studying nature’s brilliant innovations and using those designs and processes to solve human challenges in sustainable ways.

As an author, illustrator, biologist, naturalist and biomimicry professional, Woodman will share her experiences and explain how we’re leaning from 3.8 billion years of genius from the natural world. We’re discovering what organisms do to be successful and how we might learn from their mind-boggling and elegant strategies.

The group will look at inventions inspired by geckos, kingfishers, humpback whales, termites, beetles and sharks.
