Derby nets fish and fun for Bainbridge youngsters

There were plenty of tangled lines, big catches and good times at this year's Youth Fishing Derby, hosted by the Bainbridge Sportsmen's Club Saturday. The event, known as Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher Day, began at 9 a.m. and ended at noon at the Irving S. Miller Memorial Pond on Sportsman Club Road.

There were plenty of tangled lines, big catches and good times at this year’s Youth Fishing Derby, hosted by the Bainbridge Sportsmen’s Club Saturday.

The event, known as Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher Day, began at 9 a.m. and ended at noon at the Irving S. Miller Memorial Pond on Sportsman Club Road.

At the end of the event, an eagle swooped down and snagged it’s own lunch from the pond.

Cooper Evans (15 inches) and Victoria Dean (13.5 inches)

The Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher Day derby has been a Sportsmen’s Club tradition for decades and takes place on the last Saturday of April each year.

Proceeds made during the event go to support the Sportmen’s Club college scholarship program.
