A recent issue of Billboard Magazine, featuring their list of “the 51 Masters of the Independent Music Sector,” spotlighted distributors, labels and publishers across all formats — and one man from Bainbridge Island.
Profiled in the inaugural Indie Power Players issue is The Curb Group’s Vice-President/General Manager Taylor Childress, a native of Bainbridge.
The former A2IM Advisory Committee appointee’s company recently celebrated the success of recording artist Dylan Scott’s Gold-certified single, “My Girl,” which reached the number one spot on the Billboard Country Airplay Chart.
“I’m truly humbled and honored to represent our company alongside so many great champions of the Indie sector,” Childress, 37, said. “In an industry dominated by major labels, Curb Records has flourished for over 50 years due in large part to the fiercely independent spirit that Mike Curb instills in us on a daily basis.
“In 2014, leadership changes at Curb Records provided the opportunity to step into my current role, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the faith Mike Curb and Jim Ed Norman have placed in our talented team of executives who fearlessly compete with major labels each and every day.”
According to Billboard: “Curb’s acquisition of a majority stake in Word Entertainment from Warner Music Group in early 2016 was more than a vote of confidence for Word’s Christian repertoire … whose label has a history of success in both country and contemporary Christian music.”
“Any time an indie label can make an aggressive move to grow catalog and increase size, it’s a win for all indie labels,” Childress, who now resides in Nashville, told the magazine.
Celebrating over 50 years in business, Curb Records is one of the world’s leading independent music companies. Owned and operated by Mike Curb since 1962, Curb Records has achieved 434 number-one records, and 1,500 Top 10 records, and charted more than 4,500 total records, as well as developed superstar talent including Tom McGraw, LeAnn Rimes, Hank Williams Jr. and more.
