Island Terrace p-patch project breaks ground | Slideshow

Volunteers and residents of Island Terrace Apartments on High School Road took advantage of a beautiful day to break ground on their gardening project.

The community garden is one of many p-patches that have sprung up around the island in recent months.

The Island Terrace garden project includes wheelchair accessible planting beds and a section that will grow produce to bolster Helpline House’s food bank.

The project has received numerous donations from local businesses, but could always use a little more of a boost, said one organizer, Helen Loleas.

Donations or checks to help offset the cost of materials can be sent to the Housing Resources Board, P.O. Box 11391, Bainbridge Isl., WA 98110. Include “Island Terrace Community Garden” in the memo line.
