Islander finishes summer research project
Sesha Hanson-Drury, daughter of Drs. Robert Drury and Sirri Hanson, completed the second year of the University Of Washington School of Dentistry Joint DDS/PhD Program by carrying out a summer research project on the genomic aspects of the oral microbiome, under the supervision of J. Scott McLean of the Craig Ventnor Institute and UW.
She is the senior author on the resulting research publication.
Completing her undergraduate studies at State University of New York, Stony Brook and Western Washington University, she also was a research associate at Battelle’s Northwest National Laboratory and worked as a dental assistant to Joseph Zimmer of Seattle and several other dentists and orthodontists. She has provided free care at the Seattle King County Clinic and the Union Gospel Mission and travelled extensively in Southeast Asia. She hopes to find challenging international service and research opportunities as a continuing part of her education.
After graduation, she plans on practicing on Bainbridge Island.
