Jazz greats on display at Jeffrey Moose Gallery

Jeffrey Moose Gallery will present the “Neo Pop” paintings of Poulsbo-based artist Cory Bennett Anderson to celebrate Earshot Jazz and the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art’s October jazz-based offerings

Anderson will show a group of paintings, “Jazz Greats of Washington State,” depicting Washington state jazz artists, through Thursday, Nov. 1.

A reception will be held on from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 at the gallery (181 Winslow Way E, Suite F). Visit www.jeffreymoosegallery.com for more information.

Anderson is from Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was taken with the aura of celebrity and mixed his “street” style with memorable images of Hollywood’s icons.

He works in mixed media: bright colors and powerful gestures in ink, spray paint and collaged text create context for the American greats, emphasizing the fantasy world we live in with them.

First among the artists that Anderson depicted is Mildred Bailey, one of the greatest early female vocalists, who grew up in Spokane.

Bailey was part Coeur d’Alene Native American and recorded three tunes that reached number one.

Others in the show are more well known, like Quincy Jones and Ray Charles.

After 23 years operating his gallery in Seattle, Jeffrey Moose relocated his operation to Bainbridge recently.

The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday (also by special appointment). Jeffrey Moose Gallery represents an eclectic group of talents who work in many styles and a huge variety of media. Artists from Washington state and around the U.S. are represented as well as international artists from countries including Australia, Belgium and China.
