Matthew Derry is the winner of the 2017 Bainbridge Island Studio Tour Youth Art Award grand prize for his work in charcoal and acrylic paints.

The award also includes a $400 cash prize.

Donations for the prize monies are collected from Studio Tour artists, and a jury chooses the top three student applicants.

The two Honorable Mentions, and recipients of $100 cash prize, were Zach DeWitt (oil pastel, conte, acrylic paint) and Lily Forsher (digital).

“We are pleased to support and encourage up and coming artists,” said participating artist Haden Starbuck. “It was exciting to see the variety and quality of the applicants.”

The award is open to high school seniors and juniors, though all three of this year’s winners were seniors.
