Roby King Gallery will showcase the art of Melinda Whipplesmith Plank and Dion Pickering Zwirner in November at the gallery.
The new exhibition opens with an artists’ reception during the next First Friday Art Walk, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1.
Plank creates woodblock prints, and her work is informed by her cattle ranching heritage, celebrating biodiversity and the preservation of open spaces. She combines color and shape with the energy and texture of spontaneous lines.
“When I discovered printmaking 20 years ago, I was elated. Finally, a medium that took my meticulous drawings and transformed them into something earthier and more evocative than I had the wisdom to do myself.
To me, printmaking creates a visual haiku poem,” the artist explained.
Her work is part of the permanent collections at Washington state’s Maryhill Museum, and Leigh Yawkey Museum in Wisconsin.
Zwirner, a Bainbridge artist, presents “The Edge Of Seeing,” new mixed media works on paper and oil paintings.
Her work explores the beauty and power of nature, stylistically drawing from Pacific Northwest contemporary artists as well as traditional Asian paintings. Zwirner’s work is part of the permanent collections at Museum of Northwest Art, the Tacoma Art Museum, Northwest Collection, and the Bainbridge Museum of Art.
Roby King Gallery is at 176 Winslow Way East. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
