Fifth- and second-graders at The Island School have created an illustrated calendar to raise money for projects in Ometepe, Nicaragua.
Now in its 23rd year, the 2017 “Kids Can Make A Difference” calendar helps fund construction projects, library and school supplies, scholarships and more. This year’s design features aquatic animals of Ometepe and Bainbridge.
Watch for young salespeople on the streets of Winslow in the days to come. Student artists will sell calendars at Blackbird Bakery, Safeway, Town &Country and Ace Hardware from Friday, Nov. 25 through Sunday, Nov. 27.
Calendars are also available at Eagle Harbor Books and Bay Hay &Feed.
They cost $10 each.
The Ometepe calendar project was created by Boo Schneider and Alice Mendoza, third grade teachers at Ordway and Wilkes. After they retired, in 2014, they handed the project off to the children at the Island School. Last year, students were able to raise $6,908.
