Over 200 quilts to hang in Winslow for free show

The Bainbridge Island Modern Quilt Guild’s fall festival is back for its 12th year from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 at Winslow Green downtown.

The non-juried event is free to the public and will feature quiltmakers from all over the Kitsap Peninsula and Seattle. Organizers expect to hang more than 200 works of textile art from scaffolding on the Green. Last year over 1,500 visitors enjoyed the display.

The show will feature several themed categories including “bee” quilts created by volunteer groups that work together to create an original piece, along with multiple variations of improvisational “biscotti” and “dreamlines” quilts that several members created.

Attendees can vote for their favorite quilt, and kids will have a “quilt scavenger hunt.”

Attendees will be able to purchase raffle tickets for an original work titled “Autumn Sunset.” That quilt was created by members of the guild. Proceeds help to underwrite the cost of the show. Tickets are $2 each at the information booth on festival day. The winner will be drawn at 4 p.m.

The guild is a nonprofit formed in 2013 to develop and foster the art of modern quilting, and to encourage new quilters and other fiber artists interested in non-traditional quilting projects. It offers educational opportunities through classes. Its community outreach program has provided quilts to the American Heroes project, Project Linus and Pendleton Place in Bremerton.
