In honor of National Poetry Month in April, Arts & Humanities Bainbridge will once again celebrate creative combinations of the written word through its annual Poetry Corners competition, exhibits and — new this year, in partnership with Humanities Washington and the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art — three live poetry presentations.
This year’s theme is “Expression.”
The contest is open to all Bainbridge residents and anyone with a “strong Bainbridge connection.” All submissions will be grouped and juried into either “adult” or “student” (kindergarten through 12th grade) categories.
Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 8.
Since 1999, Poetry Corners has showcased original poems by local poets. Posted along our everyday routes around the island, these well-chosen words inspire us to pause, read, absorb and reflect.
The final selections from the juried poetry competition will be displayed in public windows throughout the community during the month of April and shared aloud at a celebration reading, Poetry Corners LIVE on April 27 at BIMA.
Each poet may submit three pieces for consideration. Students should indicate their grade level in their submission.
Poems cannot be more than 25 lines long, including the title and line spaces (author name does not count).
Email submission to admin@ahbainbridge.org with the subject line “Poetry Corners Submission.”
An entry fee of $5 for students and $10 for adults is required and can be paid either by check (made out to Arts & Humanities Bainbridge) or by credit card over the phone (call 206-842-7901).
Visit www.ahbainbridge.org/poetry-corners for complete submission guidelines and requirements.
